In time with President Rouhani’s visit to Baku to attend the Iran-Azerbaijan-Russia trilateral meeting, power grids of Iran and Azerbaijan Republic were officially synchronized.
Energy Minister of Iran Hamid Chitchian and Deputy Energy Minister in Electricity and Energy Affairs Houshang Falahatian had travelled to Baku in order to reach final agreement over the issue with Azerenergy JSC, the largest electrical power producer in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Iran’s Falahatian described details of the power grid synchronization saying “infrastructure for the project had been created by constricting a 230-kV transmit line with a length of 51 kilometers.”
“Pilot transmission of 90 megawatts from Azerbaijan to Iran had been successfully carried out last Thursday,” underlined the official adding “at the moment, there exists a total exchange capacity of 500 MWA in synchronous mode while the figure for island mode resides at 200 MW.”
He noted that the 230kV line need to be upgraded to 330kV in order to provide the possibility for receiving 500MW of electricity in summer as well to export a similar amount to the neighboring country in off-peak seasons.
